Gilchrist sets new World Cup record in final against Sri Lanka

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, April 28, 2007 (AFP) - Australia's Adam Gilchrist set a new record for the highest individual innings in a World Cup final when scoring 149 against Sri Lanka here on Saturday.

His innings surpassed the previous best of 140 not out by Australia captain Ricky Ponting, at the crease when his record was broken, set against India in Johannesburg four years ago.
