Girlfriend of British tourist murdered in Sri Lanka speaks of assault

Apr 21, 2013 (LBO) - The Russian girlfriend of a British tourist murdered in Sri Lanka in an incident involving a politician, has spoken of her own assault to a British newspaper. The newspaper said the dress and missing underwear could have provided evidence. Tkacheva had said she was prepared to give evidence, waiving her right to anonymity as a rape victim.

The brother of the murdered tourist has called for the suspects to be brought to trial and was in Sri Lanka earlier this year with his local member of parliament to calling for justice.

Britain's The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Victoria Tkacheva, 24 as saying that she was approached while she was in the beach by a group of men and when she ran back to the hotel she was chased and assaulted.

She was holidaying in the Sri Lankan resort of Tangalle in December 2011 with her boyfriend Khuram Shaikh, a 32-year-old Red Cross worker, who she had met two year earlier in North Korea, when the attack took place.

Shaikh was brutally murdered in the incident.
