President Chandrika Kumaratunga today appointed retired Hayleys Chairman, Sunil Mendis as the Governor of the Central Bank for a six year term, replacing A S Jayewardene.
Jayewardene completed his six year term as Governor of the Bank today.rn

rnThe new Governor will assume office at the Central Bank on Thursday July 01, 2004. rn

rnMendis retired recently as Chairman of Hayleys Group of companies, one of the countrys oldest and largest conglomerates. He is a member of the Association of Certified and Corporate Accountants (UK) Professional Sections 1-3.rn

rnMendis was on the board of over 100 companies and several State Institutions in Sri Lanka. He has also served on the boards of Companies in the USA, UK, Japan and Australia. rn
