Dhoni, often described as India's most eligible bachelor, was expected to wed Sakshi Singh Rawat at a private Hindu ceremony near the town of Dehra Dun in the northern state of Uttarakhand.

Teammates such as Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina gathered to attend the event, and Bollywood movie star John Abraham was also reportedly present.

Dhoni, 28, a flamboyant wicketkeeper and batsman, established himself in the national side in 2004 and is currently captain in all forms of the game.
