The World Bank agrees to support the E-Sri Lanka programme, to bridge the island’s digital divide, with a US$ 53 mn credit package. The World Bank on Tuesday approved a US mn credit line for its first integrated e-development project, the e-Sri Lanka project, said a press release from the World Bank.
E-Sri Lanka is a comprehensive program of leveraging Information Communication Technologies (ICT) to make improvements across the board.
This includes improving public service delivery, increasing private sector competitiveness, promoting new sources of growth, accelerating social development, bridging the digital divide, and even supporting peace.
The project will be implemented over a period of five years starting from November 2004.
The International Development Association (IDA), the World Bank’s concessionary lending affiliate, is providing the US $ 53 mn credit to the government of Sri Lanka on standard IDA terms, with 40 years maturity and a 10-year grace period.
