Oct 26, 2018 (LBO) – Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera says the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister is unconstitutional and illegal.
According to Samaraweera, the appointment is an anti-democratic coup. Small political parties including the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Tamil Progressive Alliance and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) are also to take a decision about the matter.
The joint opposition, however, says Wickremesinghe was appointed as Prime Minister back in 2015 with only 46 seats in the Parliament. Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says they are ready to prove that they have the support of the Parliament.
