Feb 03, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Navy has rescued 127 Bangladeshi and 11 Myanmar nationals from a wooden vessel that has been drifting 50 nautical miles off the eastern coast of the island.

Sri Lanka's Navy said 132 males, 03 females and 03 children were taken off an overcrowded wooden vessel and brought to Oluvil harbor in a 20 hours search and rescue operation.

A Sri Lankan fishing craft 'Manju 4' had sighted the stricken vessel and informed Sri Lanka's office of fisheries and aquatic resources office, which had alerted the navy.


Two fast attack crafts (P413 and P439) and Udara a gun boat had been involved in the rescue.

The Navy said the vessel had been drifting for 10 days and its occupants were suffering from dehydration with 06 persons being hospitalized.
