Geneva Call, an international humanitarian group held its first global review for signatories of its ‘Deed of Commitment’ (DOC) for a total ban on anti-personnel mines.

Held on November 1 and 2 in Geneva, the summit also saw two Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) combatants, not yet signatory to the pact, take part.

The conference tackles the challenges in implementing the DoC, how best to improve the process, share best practices and encourages new signatories to join the mine ban.

Geneva Call has been in talks with the LTTE to sign the Deed of Commitment – an assurance, though not legally binding, that it will not use landmines.
