Department officials say the near pristine conditions of the airstrips could have the Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, Koggala and Wirawilla airstrips opened up for commercial use as early as end September 2002.

rnHowever, all remains in the hand of the ministry and the success of the peace process, officials add. rn

rnMeanwhile industry analysts say the domestic air service sector could generate an estimated Rs. 200 million in revenue annually with up to six operators expected to take to the skies by the end of the year.

rnOnly one domestic license has been issued to date, with latest two coming by end August and thee more due before 2003. rn

rnThe boom for the industry is expected to come with the boom in the tourist trade. rn

rnPeace and rejuvenated marketing efforts by the tourist trade is tipped to attract record arrivals in the next season, say officials.
