Sep 07, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s election watchdog PAFFREL has urged Election Commissioner to probe alleged misuse of state vehicles by ministers and other politicians at the recently concluded general election.
In a letter to the Election Department, the election monitoring organization has called the commissioner to take action against offenders.
PAFFREL has also requested the Elections Commissioner to investigate whether candidates only used vehicles allocated to them and paid the monthly charge of 100,000 rupees per vehicle allocated to them.
The organization has further asked the Commissioner to probe whether Parliamentarians, Provincial Councilors and Heads of Local Government who are not entitled to use vehicles, handed over the vehicles used by them.
