The Ceylon Electricity Board is being unbundled into Strategic Business Units for six months, with top officials being appointed to head the units next week.
“Next week, Chief Executive Officers of the unbundled entities will be appointed and will run as Strategic Business Units for the next six months. That process is going ahead,” CEO of Strategic Enterprise Management Agency (SEMA), Mano Tittawella said Monday.
Proposed reforms that were thrown in limbo after a change in government this year, is going ahead, dressed up to fall in line with the state’s anti-privatisation policy.
Under earlier reforms, eight companies – one for generation, one for transmission, five for distribution and one to handle non-core activities of the CEB, were to be spun off as independent companies.
The new model will see eight ‘units’ being set up under the CEB to increase ‘operational efficiency’, and will run for six months. Independent companies may follow suit.
