PM opens new manufacturing facility of seafood exporter Ceylon Catch

The new fish manufacturing facility of Ceylon Catch (Pvt) Ltd. was declared open by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday at Dankotuwa.

The company is one of Sri Lanka's leading exporters of seafood to the United States, Japan, Canada, China, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Their tuna is line-caught, traceable to the point of catch, and certified by Friend of the Sea. Their flash-frozen seafood is HACCP certified and FDA approved.

Ceylon Catch (Pvt) Ltd. has an annual export revenue of USD 12 million. With the opening of the new plant, it is expected to generate USD 15 million annually.

After starting the new plant, the export target for the next 3 years is to be increased by three-fold.

The company commenced operations on June 15, 2016, under the management of Managing Director Indika Ellawala and Srijith Jayatunga.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister also opened the Lanka Seafoods factory in Arachchikattuwa, Puttalam on the same day.

Lanka Sea Foods, a fish exporter targeting foreign markets, has created about 600 jobs.

The Prime Minister inspected the high-quality fish processing being carried out in the new factory targeting foreign markets.

In the future, Lanka Sea Foods products with export standards will be available for purchase through a network of outlets throughout the country for local consumers.

Chairman of Lanka Sea Foods Sarath Kithsiri briefed the Prime Minister on the future of Lanka Sea Foods.

Ministers of State Sanath Nishantha and Lohan Ratwatte, MPs Chinthaka Mayadunne and Ashoka Priyantha, and staff of Lanka Seafoods were present on the occasion.
