Feb 02, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena says he will have to take decisions on the actions of members of the former government as well as the current government.
The President said Sri Lanka will be built as a developed country, moving forward as a strong government and always ready to listen to the voice of the poor people of the country.
“The people elected a new government not to see the same corruption and fraud done by the former government,” the President emphasized.
“According to the people’s need, I will have to take decisions on actions done by members of the former government as well as the current government.”
The President was speaking at a public meeting held yesterday in Eravur under the theme ‘Third Year of Sustainable Era – Eastern Province Public Meeting.’
Granting of housing loans, and offering ownership of houses took place at the occasion.
President Sirisena emphasized that he would never betray the trust placed by the people who elected the new government.
“Those who used state income, state property and the treasury for their personal needs are trying to come to power use them again,” he said.
“Nobody can change the government till the people elect a new one at an election held after five years.”
The President further said Sri Lanka will be built as a developed country, moving forward as a strong government and always ready to listen to the voice of the poor people of the country.
“The current government is not an years old government. It started only two years ago,” he stated.
“As a new government there’s time to perform its duties. But we will execute today, the duties need to be fulfilled today for the country and the people.”
Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan, Ministers Rajitha Senaratne and Daya Gamage, Governor of the Eastern Province Austin Fernando, Eastern Province Chief Minister Nazir Ahmed were among those who participated at the event.
