Oct 26, 2018 (LBO) – Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday night challenged Mahinda Rajapaksa to prove the majority in Parliament in order to resolve the issue democratically.
Special statement delivered by Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees today:
“I’m addressing you as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. I’m the Prime Minister under article 42 of the constitution in accordance with the 19th amendment. There was a motion of no confidence against me in Parliament which was defeated; a majority voted against it. That situation has not changed.
Since I have a majority I remain as the Prime Minister and I will function as the Prime Minister.”
Meanwhile, the Media Unit of the Speaker issuing a statement said he will deliver his impartial opinion on the issue tomorrow after taking legal advice on the matter.
