LONDON, July 24, 2006 (AFP) – The classic romantic wedding proposal where a man offers his would-be fiancee an engagement ring while down on bended knee, is going out of fashion, according to a British survey published Monday. Nearly one in three British couples just “agree together” to get married, according to a survey of 8,500 people carried out by GMTV television.
“Sitting down and agreeing together to get married is a practical and sensible way to do it, but it’s not very romantic,” said a GMTV spokeswoman.

“It seems as if the marriage proposal could be in danger of dying out.” Of the couples that did have a story to tell, three percent featured the woman making the proposal, indicating it is still the man’s traditional role to pop the question.
