Microsoft says its five day IT training course is also expected to become a compulsory addition to a two-week training programme given to migrant workers by the foreign employment bureau.
The project is implemented with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), the island's state foreign employment promotion office.
The initiative will enhance the quality of life of migrant workers by filling a skills gap, Sriyan de Silva Wijeyeratne, country manager for Microsoft Sri Lanka, said in a statement.

Microsoft says it is also talking to Sri Lanka's Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka to join them in opening IT booths called a 'Nenasala', as a low cost communication point for migrant workers and their families.
Reshan Dewapura, chief operating officer of ICTA says there are already 550 Nanaselas across Sri Lanka helping rural communities use information technology for their day to day needs.
