Soft Cup

June 20, 2008 (LBO) - An environmental short film by a team from Sri Lanka made it to the top six in Microsoft's Imagine Cup competition finals, which would be held in July in Paris this year, the firm's local office said. Sri Lanka's ˜Team Gènès|pictures’was able to qualify for the finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2008, to be held from 3-8 of July in Paris, France.

"With Microsoft Imagine Cup we have set in place a tradition of thinking out of the box," Microsoft Sri Lanka country manager, Sriyan de Silva Wijeyratne said.

The team is made up of Buddhika Perera and Malika Fernando from Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), Gimantha Aponso from Tec Sri Lanka and Salinga Kodikara from the National Institute of Technical Education Sri Lanka.

"This competition is never an easy task, with more than 150 teams around the world competing for the first round, and only 30 teams being selected for the second round," team leader Buddhika Perera said in a statement.
