Sri Lanka chamber says trade missions yield contracts, orders

June 24, 2008 (LBO) – Business promotion missions to Iran and Pakistan organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) have resulted in several contract agreements and confirmed orders for Sri Lankan companies with others under negotiation. The CCC said in a statement it was now doing a study to explore possibilities of leading two missions to the African and SAARC (South Asian) regions during the second half of the year.

The trade missions are aimed at helping chamber members to penetrate into new markets.

Puvi Domingoopillai, Consultant, CCC who co-ordinated the missions said the delegates received about 140 enquiries, made 90 business contacts and concluded seven contract agreements or confirmed orders.

"In addition to these, six are under negotiation and the delegates are quite positive that these six too would result in finalization of contract," she said.

The leader of the delegation, Samantha Ranatunga said many useful contacts were made for industrial, consumer and pharmaceutical products in Iran and Pakistan.

"We found many companies interested in having integrated agriculture facilities with whom discussions are taking place."
