June 10, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the country will not unload any cargo of the Iranian merchant ship, F Whale and it is not carrying crude oil shipment to state-run Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. “We have information that the vessel of the name of F Whale under the Panama flag, has entered Colombo port on the 5th of June, 2015 to obtain bunkering servicers,” the new Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Maheshini Kolonne said. “We can confirm that it was not carrying supplies for the CPC and did not unload any cargo.” She said this in replying to a media report today which says that Sri Lanka has been warned about a suspected breach of an embargo on Iranian crude oil by involving CPC. According to the media report of Daily mirror newspaper, the US embassy in Colombo had written to the Energy Ministry saying a crude oil shipment to Sri Lanka on board the merchant ship F Whale is of Iranian origin. Sri Lanka had been informed that the acceptance of the crude oil "tank amounts to a serious violation" of an undertaking given to the US and it can "damage the prevailing goodwill" between the two countries. The report quoted the letter as saying that the vessel, Vardalalima had loaded crude in December from Kharg Island which had then been transferred to the second ship off Khor Fakkan.
