Sri Lanka Jan-Oct exports up by 8.7 pct to $9bn

Dec 10, 2014 -Sri Lanka’s provisional merchandise (only) exports surged by 8.79 percent to 9.104 billion dollars in the months of January to October 2014, the export development board (EDB) said. Italy appears to overtake India to become the third largest export market as provisional exports to Italy jumped by a strong 29 percent.

US continues to remain as the largest export market for Sri Lanka with 2.2 billion dollars exports which accounts for 73 percent of the total exports in the months of Jan to Oct.

Sri Lanka has exported 8.36 billion dollar goods and services at the same time period last year.

For the month of October 2014 alone our provisional exports were at 900 million dollars and this is only merchandise exports without taking into account of service exports such as ICT, Bandula Egodage,

It is time that we continue to enhance export products and market diversification.

Sri Lanka targets a 20 billion dollar export market in 2020.

Service exports values such as ICT/BPM exports are not included in Jan-October 2014 values EDB said.

United States, UK, Italy, India, and Germany was the leading five export markets for Sri Lanka in Jan-Oct
