Sri Lanka to develop national transmission network with USD200mn Japanese loan


June 20, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Friday signed an agreement for a project to develop the national transmission and distribution network in the island.

The project with a value of 200 million US dollars is to be granted under the 45th Yen Loan Package, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Japanese government keep granting loans to strengthen the transmission capacity by reducing transmission losses and enhancing the reliability of power supply network in Sri Lanka.

Both parties also signed a non-project grant aid for the provision of Japanese local products and equipment to develop the railway network and agricultural facilities to the value of 500 million Japanese Yen.

Meanwhile Minister Samaraweera on Saturday addressed a high level seminar on ‘Peace building, Nationalization and Democratization in Asia’ held in Tokyo.
