Sri Lanka official reserves at USD 8.3bn by end July; YTD rupee appreciation 3.1-pct

Aug 09, 2019 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s gross official reserves were 8,343.9 million US dollars by the end of July, down from 8,864.98 million US dollars in June, latest Central Bank data showed.

By the end of July, foreign currency reserves were 7,366.8 million dollars while the reserve position in the IMF was 65.8 million dollars.

Special Drawing Rights were 7.3 million, reserves in Gold were 902.9 million and other reserve assets were 1.1 million US dollars.

Foreign investors who bought government bonds withdrew 729 million rupees worth of securities during this week.

The outstanding stock of T-bills and T-bonds held by foreigners has decreased by 0.53 percent during this week.

During the year up to date, the Sri Lanka rupee has appreciated against the US dollar by 3.1 percent.
