Nov 15, 2018 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s Parliament adjourned till tomorrow amidst a tense situation erupted in the house after Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella called for a vote over a statement made by disputed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
After Rajapaksa concluded his statement saying the country should go for a general election, Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella called for a vote by name on the speech that led to a fist fight with several injured.
Meanwhile, the President in a letter to the speaker questioned the validity of the no-confidence motion passed yesterday saying the speaker has ignored the constitution.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, however, said the vote was taken according to the 47(1) of Standing Orders. Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister dispute has now turned into a deadlock as both parties have no intention of giving up the fight for power.
