Sri Lanka port expansion with UltraTech cement

Sept 12, 2013 (LBO) – UltraTech Cement Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a unit of India’s Aditya Birla group said it had provided 90 percent of the cement for Sr Lanka’s Colombo South Harbhour expansion. It had supplied 160,000 metric tonnes for the project over two years, the firm said in a statement.

Kiran Redkar, chief exective UltraTech Cement, Sri Lanka said he believed that the product’s consistent quality from one source and optimal chemical composition were factors in being chosen.

UltraTech Cement is also supplying an expressway from Sri Lanka’s Katunayake airport to the capital Colombo.

The firm said it had a 15 percent market share in Sri Lanka. Worldwide Aditya Birla had 40 billion US dollars in revenues from operations in 36 countries and 133,000 workers belonging to 43 nationalities.
