The strikes came days after the guerrillas attacked the Anuradhapura military base.

A group of at least 21 elite Black Tiger suicide bombers destroyed a fleet of aircraft at the base, 210 kilometres (130 miles) north of the capital Colombo, knocking out the air surveillance capability of the military.
