Sri Lanka shares end up 0.82-pct

Jan 04, 2011, (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Thursday with active trading seen in the poultry and index heavy stocks like JKH, brokers said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 6,809.73, up 0.82 percent (55.42 points) while the more liquid Milanka index closed at 7,194.

"Trading was more retail dominated," Bartleet Mallory Stockbrokers said.

The biggest contributor to trading was JKH with over 2.5 million shares done and the stock closing at 299.00, down 0.20 rupees. There were three crossings of two million, 173,00 and 200,000 at 295.00 rupees.

Bairaha Farms closed at 430.30, up 11.30 and Ceylon Grain Elevators closed at 114.00, up 17.00 rupees with 2.1 million shares changing hands.

Laugfs Gas shares were heavily traded with voting shares closing at 30.70, up 1.80 rupees and over 10 million shares done while non-voting shares closed at 24.
