Sri Lanka shares end up 0.96-pct

Dec 27, 2010 (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed higher Monday with only two private deals reported and active trading in a rubber products group and a tableware exporter, brokers said. The All Share Price Index closed at 6,621.51, up 0.96 percent (63.26 points) while the more liquid Milanka index rose 0.59 percent (41.53 points) to close at 7,026.56, according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Turnover was 1.1 billion rupees.

There was one private deal in Renuka Holdings of 2.5 million shares at 60.50 rupees each. The share closed at 62.30, up 60 cents.

Another crossing was reported of 115,000 shares of CT Holdings at 184 rupees each. It closed at 185, up 4.80.

Rubber products group Richard Pieris & Company, which also runs a chain of malls, was the most actively traded stock, with over 5.1 million shares traded. It closed at 10.60 rupees, up 20 cents.

Tableware exporter Dankotuwa Porcelain was the second most actively traded stock, closing at 62.50, up 4.50.
