Sri Lanka stocks close 2.1-pct higher

Mar 17, 2011(LBO) – Sri Lankan stocks closed 2.16 percent higher Thursday, rebounding for a second consecutive day after three days of losses with gains seen across the board, brokers said. Piramal Glass closed at 11.40, up 0.50 cents with 2.6 million shares traded.

The All Share Price Index closed at 7,269.59, up 2.16 percent (153.97 points) while the Milanka Price Index of more liquid stocks closed at 6,775.

Turnover was 1.5 billion rupees. There were 176 gainers and 23 losers.

“While there was some bargain hunting among the investors there was also some interest seen on the poultry sector stocks,” an analyst said.

Grain Elevators closed at 183.00, up 16.60 rupees and Three Acre Farms closed at 175.60, up 18.90 rupees.
