Sri Lanka stocks close down

Dec 29, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lankan stocks closed lower Thursday after four days of gains with more deals in a bank dominating turnover that remained at relatively low levels, brokers said.

The main All Share Price Index eased 0.07 percent (4.01 points) to 6,089.38, while the more liquid Milanka index fell 0.

19 percent (9.88 points) to 5,262.76.

Turnover was 680 million rupees, according to stock exchange provisional figures.

Commercial Bank transactions once again dominated turnover with three crossings or off-market private deals of a million shares all at 100 rupees each.

A foreign investor has been selling out in recent days. The share closed at 99.90 rupes, down 40 cents.

Sampath Bank trades accounted for the next biggest turnover with the share closing at 195 rupees, down four.

Tess Agro was the most actively traded stock, closing at 4.

HVA Foods was among the most actively traded stocks, closing up 30 cents at 38.50 rupees.
