Sri Lanka stocks close higher

Dec 11, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed greener Wednesday with diversified stocks gaining amid net foreign buying, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed 9.29 points higher at 5,787.81, up 0.16 percent. The S&P SL20 closed 5.65 points higher at 3,182.27, up 0.18 percent.

Turnover was 180.07 million rupees, down from 425.87 million rupees a day earlier, with stocks of 95 firms closing in the red against 63 gainers.

Commercial Bank closed 50 cents lower at 117.00 rupees with market transactions of 41.62 million rupees contributing to 24 percent of total turnover.

People’s Leasing closed 50 cents higher at 14.30 rupees and Tess Agro closed 10 cents lower at 1.40 rupees attracting most number of trades during the day.

Foreigners bought 54 million rupees worth shares while selling 31 million rupees of shares.

Ceylon Tobacco Company closed 33.20 rupees higher at 1,139.50 rupees and Finlays Colombo closed 43.00 rupees higher at 296.10 rupees, contributing most to the index gain.

Lion Brewery closed flat at 342.10 rupees and DFCC closed 3.10 rupees higher at 125.10 rupees.

Dialog Axiata closed 10 cents higher at 8.90 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom closed 10 cents higher at 37.50 rupees.

Nestle Lanka closed 8.30 rupees lower at 2,096.70 rupees and Carson Cumberbatch closed 3.50 rupees lower at 346.60 rupees.

Asian Hotels and Properties closed 1.40 rupees lower at 66.00 rupees.

Sampath Bank closed 1.70 rupees lower at 166.20 rupees and JKH closed flat at 215.00 rupees.

JKH’s W0023 warrants closed 1.30 rupees lower at 73.80 rupees and it’s W0022 warrants closed 1.50 rupees lower at 62.00 rupees.

Ceylinco Insurance closed 49.70 rupees lower at 1,300.00 rupees and Lanka Orix Leasing Company closed 1.20 rupees higher at 71.20 rupees.

Bukit Darah closed flat at 615.00 rupees and Distilleries also closed flat at 190.00 rupees. Cargills Ceylon closed flat at 147.50 rupees and NDB closed 80 cents lower at 155.70 rupees.

HNB closed 1.00 rupee lower at 142.00 rupees and Touchwood Investments also closed flat at 2.90 rupees.
