Sri Lanka stocks close up 0.3-pct

Dec 30, 2015 (LBO) – Sri Lankan stocks closed up at 0.33 percent with some banking and finance sector stocks making gains, brokers said.

The Colombo benchmark All Share Price Index closed higher at 22.89 points at 6,870.63 up 0.33 percent. S&P SL20 closed 12.95 points up at  3,605.07 up 0.36 percent.

Turnover was at 271 million rupees, lower than the daily average of 1.1 billion rupees with 68 stocks closing positive against 62 negative.

“Low investor activity was witnessed with banking stocks showing an improved performance,” Lanka Securities said.

The main index showed gains in Ceylon Tobacco closing at 996.10 rupees, up 16.10 rupees and Colombo Commercial Leasing closing at 4.20 rupees, up 0.20 rupees.

In the banking sector, DFCC Bank closed at 162.80 rupees, up 0.80 rupees and Sampath Bank closed at 249.50 rupees, up 3.00 rupees.

Active trading was seen in Sanasa Development Bank with the stock closing at 154.20 rupees, down 2.50 rupees with one off the floor trade of 130,000 shares at 154.00.
