Sri Lanka stocks close up 1.07-pct

Aug 14, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stocks closed up 1.07 percent Wednesday with foreign interest driving up stocks such as Ceylon Tobacco, brokers said. The benchmark Colombo All Share Index closed 1.07 points higher at 6,208.67 and the S&P SL 20 Index closed 30.87 points higher at 3,484.10 up 0.89 percent.

Turnover was 1.9 billion rupees up from 403 million rupees Tuesday with over 49 million shares traded in a day that 78 stocks advanced and 101 stocks declined.

Large off-market trades in Hatton National Bank at 115 rupees brought 35 percent of the turnover.

Foreigners brought 1.5 billion rupees worth shares while selling 680 million rupees of shares.

Ceylon Tobacco Company contributed most to the index closing at 1,271.50 rupees up 71.40 rupees and Nestle Lanka closed at closed at 2,408.40 rupees up 152.90 rupees.

Carson Cumberbatch closed at closed at 405.00 rupees up 14.00 rupees.

Union Assurance closed at 99.00 down 10.10 rupees. Sri Lanka Telecom closed at closed at 40.80 rupees down 30 cents.
