Sri Lanka stocks down 0.16 pct

Aug 13, 2012 (LBO) - Sri Lanka stocks closed down 0.16 percent Monday with market trading lacking momentum, brokers said.

Nation Lanka, Taj Lanka, PCH Holdings, HNB Assurance and Browns Inv were among the top gainers today. PCH Holdings were up 9.9 percent to close at 11.10 rupees, Browns Investments up 7.4 percent to close at 2.90 rupees and HNB Assurance up 4.7 percent to close at 42.00 rupees. The All Share Price Index dropped 7.77 points to close at 4,846.45 down 0.16 percent while the Milanka Index of more liquid stocks gained 1.74 points (0.04 percent) to close at 4372.62 and the S&P index of large cap stocks lost 4.94 points (0.18 percent) to close at 2729.27

Monday's turnover was 163 million rupees. Dominant contributors to turnover were Sampath Bank with 23.7 million rupees, John Keells Holdings with 16.2 million rupees and E-Channeling with 12.8 million rupees.
