Sri Lanka stocks up 0.8-pct

July 11, 2013 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stocks closed up 0.77 percent Thursday showing gains for a second consecutive day with large cap stocks making gains, brokers said.

Distilleries Company closed at 192.00 rupees up 3.00 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company closed at 997.30 rupees up 1.30 rupees. The benchmark Colombo All Share Index closed 46.33 points higher at 6,062.38 up 0.77 percent and the S&P SL 20 Index closed 27.82 points higher at 3,392.90 up 0.83 percent.

Turnover was 241 million rupees up from 228.1 million from a day earlier.

John Keells Holdings contributed most to the index closing at 253.30 rupees up 7.70 rupees. Investment promotions minister Lakshaman Yapa Abeywardene, said Thursday a mixed resort project by listed John Keells group will involve investments up to 850 million US dollars.

Dialog Axiata closed at 8.70 rupees up 20 cents.

Negative contributors were Carson’s Cumberbatch closing at 419.30 down 5.70 rupees and Sri Lanka Telecom closed at 40.40 down 0.40 rupees.

Hatton National Bank closed at 156.80 rupees down 70 cents and Sampath Bank closed at 194.60 rupees up 0.60 rupees.
