Sri Lanka Susanthika passes 200m heat

August 29, 2007 (LBO) – Sri Lanka sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe qualified for the 200 metres women's event at the IAAF World Championships in Osaka overcoming an earlier disappointment at the 100 metre heats. "It was really important for me to finish strong to draw a good lane in the next round," Jayasinghe said.

"I was so upset to be disqualified in the 100m that I absolutely need to make up for it in the 200m."

She was disqualified for a false start at the 100 metre heat.

Jayasinghe finished her heat in 22.50 seconds, 0.05 behind reigning champion Allyson Felix.

Jayasinghe told state television earlier that she would have loved to wear a suit with a national flag or colours imprinted on it like athletes of other countries but usually had to buy her own off the shelf and make do somehow.

Nine officials accompanied the sprint star to Japan for the current event, media reports said.
