Oct 21, 2016 (LBO) – The special gazette notification announcing the price reduction of 48 essential medical drugs will be issued midnight today, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.
Senaratne said that the prices of drugs will be reduced up to 85 percent through this gazette notification.
The 48 essential medicines include those used in the treatment of major non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and different antibiotics.
The new pricing mechanism will come under a Maximum Retail Price formula till a long-term solution is found.
New initiative seeks to offer customers an alternative drug against expensive drugs for lower cost without compromising the quality.
