Sri Lanka to ration power for three hours

Sri Lanka is having one of the driest years in more than a decade with failure of three monsoons which has depleted hydro storage amid relatively good economic growth that is driving demand for power.

The power ministry said electricity supply will be cut in four time blocks to different parts of the island.


From 8.30 to 1045 power will be cut to Anuradhapura, Habarana, Vavuniya, Thulhiriya, Pannala, Bolawatta, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Chilaw, Madampe, Amparai, Trincomallee, Biyagama, Katunayake, Kosgama, Kelaniya, Aniyakanda, Veyangoda, Athurugiriya, Pannapitiya, Seethawaka, Ambilitpitiya, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Rantembe, Ambalangoda, Deniyaya, Galle, Matara, Mathugma, Panadura, Kiribathkumbura, Horana, Panadua, Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Dehiwala, Valachchenai, Kotugoda, Sapugaskande, Ambalangoda, Ukuwela, Wimalasurendra, Hambantota, Beliatta, Ratmalana.
