Sri Lanka tourist arrivals grow 3.6 pct in September

Oct 05, 2016 (LBO) – Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka rose 3.6 percent in September to 148,499 visitors compared with the same month last year, official data showed, a slower rate of growth compared to previous months. Arrivals during the first nine months of the year were up 14.6 percent to 1,508,405 visitors.

China continued its upward trend in September with arrivals up 7.8 percent to 22,111 compared to the same month in 2015, while arrivals from India didn't show an improvement. In September, arrivals from UK grew 10.1 percent to 12,288 visitors while Germany showed a 21.8 percent increase in arrivals. During the first nine months, visitors from Western Europe were up 17.5 percent to 485,623. South Asia accounted for 361,065 tourists and East Asia 325,633 tourists. arrivals
