Sri Lanka wants to move up 40 steps in ease of doing business

Oct 13, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka is expected to reach 60th or a higher place in the world ease of doing business index in two years, a minister said.



State Minister of International Trade Sujeewa Senasinghe told the World Export Development Forum that the government wants to create a conducive environment for local businesses. “We want to move up around 40 places in the ease of doing business index,” Senasinghe said.



Sri Lanka currently ranks at the 107th place in the index out of 189 economies.

A high ease of doing business ranking means the regulatory environment is more conducive to the starting and operation of a local firm. “We also expect to grab World Economic Forum to Sri Lanka next year or as soon as possible.

” The government is also to complete the ongoing integration project of state agencies such as Sri Lanka Customs, Inland Revenue Department and Labor Department by the end of this year.
