Sri Lanka wind power firm buys Gamesa turbines

June 16, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's Pawan Danavi (Pvt) Ltd, a unit LTL Holdings a power generating group will buy turbines from Gamesa Wind Turbines, the Indian arm of Spain's Gamesa Corp Tecnologica, reports said. Pawan Danavi plant will run a wind farm with a capacity of 10.

2 MegaWatts with will have 12 Gamesa G58-850 kW Class III turbines. The turbines are expected to be delivered by the third quarter of 2011, Press Trust of India said.

"Gamesa is glad to bring in to Sri Lanka our vast experience in the wind energy sector and thus, playing a major role in facilitating the country''s wind market growth," the report quoted Ramesh Kymal, head of Gamesa in India as saying.

Gamesa is Europe's second largest wind turbine maker. The latest order will increase the total capacity of Gamesa plants in the country to 30.2 MegaWatts.

Pawan Danavi is 40 percent owned by LVL Energy Fund (Pvt) Ltd, a fully owned unit of Colombo listed Lanka Ventures.
