The Asian Development Bank said it will re-allocate existing funds of up to US$ 25 mn so that urgent aid can be rolled out quickly to disaster hit areas.
The Bank said in Colombo that procedures to allocate the funds can be completed quickly, so that short to medium term support can reach affected areas within a month.
The ADB has said it can address immediate short term needs, repair basic critical services and furnish equipment and supplies.
Immediate work will focus on facilitating availability of drinking water and rehabilitating basic community infrastructure in affected communities under existing projects.
Long term rehabilitation and reconstruction needs will be tackled together with the Government and other development partners.

The ADB together with other aid agencies will carry out a needs assessment of longer term reconstruction requirements.
