Sri Lanka’s Ceylinco Life says PDAs to enhance sales

June 19, 2008 (LBO) – Sri Lankan insurance firm Ceylinco Life said it was arming its sales force with Personal Digital Assistants or PDAs in an effort to increase sales using the palm-top devices. The company said in a statement the launch of ˜e-assist’, a PDA-based "mobile insurance sales office", will improve the way insurance salespeople work.

The company will equip its sales team with Personal Digital Assistants with software developed by NCS, an IT and communications engineering solutions provider in Singapore.

"Armed with these mobile phone-sized devices and miniature portable printers that clip on their trouser belts, Ceylinco Life’s sales consultants will now carry their offices in their hands and into the homes of their policyholders and prospective clients."

The 'palm-top insurance' will enable them to feed in information on a prospective customer’s earnings, expenses and other indicators to produce a computer-aided Needs Analysis, the company said.

It could also produce a quotation within minutes, modify it if necessary in consultation with the customer, accept the first premium and issue a printed receipt, all in a single visit, the company said.
