Sri Lanka’s east gets US help

July 14, 2010 (LBO) – Regional authorities in Sri Lanka’s war ravaged eastern province is getting US support to improve administration, financial management and instruction in Sinhala and Tamil languages. The USAID program under Sri Lanka’s local government ministry will help 37 local authorities in the eastern province.

“I am pleased that the United States Government is partnering with the Ministry of Local Governance and Provincial Councils in this program,” U.S. ambassador Patricia A. Butenis said in a statement.

“This demonstrates our shared vision on the importance of local government serving the needs of its citizens, and increasing transparency and accountability in service delivery and development.”
