May 30, 2017 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s pipe borne water distributed through the National Water Supply and Drainage Board is safe to use, City Planning and Water Supply Minister Rauff Hakeem said.
Speaking to journalists at the Disaster Management Center on Tuesday, Minister assured that pipe borne water supply in the country was not contaminated as a result of recent floods.
“When it comes to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, we completely certify that the water that we supply is without any contamination whatsoever,” Hakeem said.
“There is no fear for anyone to drink water that is being supplied by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board because we constantly monitor the quality of water.”
Minister said that all their water treatment plants are equipped to monitor quality, and monitoring is taking place each an every hour.
The Minister however stated that water distribution had been affected in some areas as a result of floods and landslides and steps are being taken to restore the water supply.
