SriLankan expects US$25mn topline from airline alliance

Apr 09, 2014 (LBO) - State-run SriLankan Airlines said joining oneworld, a global alliance of airlines is expected bring it 25 million US dollars a year in incremental annual revenues and allow customers easy travel to the Americas. American Airlines and, its merger partner US Airways, from North America: LAN TAM from South America as well as more than 30 affiliated airlines.

Chandrasena said SriLankan's service levels were high but the formal acceptance into the alliance would give automatic recognition of it to global travellers.

SriLankan is joining the alliance from May 01, after upgrading its passenger support system and some processes to comply with oneworld requirements.

SriLankan chief executive Kapila Chandrasena said oneworld which was made up of airlines in East Asia, Middle East, Europe and North and South America had a gap in South Asia.

SriLankan had an extensive network in the region including to India, he said.

Chandrasena said SriLankan expected incremental revenues of 25 million US dollars a year from joining the alliance.
