Sri Lanka’s apparel industry recorded an encouraging 15.14% year-on-year growth in April 2025, reflecting a notable rebound in demand from major global markets. According to data released by the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), exports to the EU (excluding the UK) surged by an impressive 27.04%, while shipments to the USA and UK grew by 6.83% and 7.45% respectively. Exports to other destinations climbed 21.18%, underscoring the industry’s widening global reach.

Cumulatively, apparel exports for the first four months of 2025 amounted to USD 1.66 billion, marking a 12.4% increase compared to the same period last year. The EU led the gains with an 18.13% rise, followed by the USA (10.06%), other markets (13.56%), and the UK (6.26%).

JAAF notes that this growth comes despite persistent volatility in the global trade landscape and shifting consumer demand patterns. The industry’s strong performance highlights the agility of Sri Lankan manufacturers in responding to evolving market dynamics while maintaining high standards in quality, compliance, and sustainability.

“This momentum reflects the tireless efforts of our manufacturers, workers, and exporters in staying competitive globally,” JAAF said in a statement. “The numbers not only demonstrate resilience but also point to the growing recognition of Sri Lanka as a reliable sourcing destination for ethical, high-value apparel.”

As the industry continues to navigate complex macroeconomic and geopolitical headwinds, JAAF reiterated its call for consistent policy support and stronger global trade linkages to sustain growth and unlock new opportunities for value addition and innovation across the sector.
