Trinco to be developed as agri and energy hub

May 05, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s cabinet has decided to approve a planning review to be done to develop Trincomalee and surrounding cities in the islands east. ”The Trincomalee area has been identified as major zone that could be developed as agricultural and energy hubs under the development program of the present government,” a statement on approved cabinet decisions said. “Therefore, to cater for changing needs of the area, a planning review has to be done in order to prepare a concept plan and a detailed master plan in this regard.” The ability of amalgamating the development of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Hingurakgoda cities with the Trincomalee development process will also be concerned in this review. It is also has potential for establishment of manufacturing and tourist zones, it added.

This is a very good suggestion/move by the government and the cabinet.
But it is DEMOCRATICALLY VITAL that the government has to conduct a CONSULTATION with the CITIZENS of the Trincomalee District when a planning review will to be done in order to prepare a concept plan and a detailed master plan in this regard.
Peoples engagement/views in navigating the concept plan and the detailed master plan for the benefit of the NATION/COUNTRY/DISTRICT and the citizens/population of the Trincomalee district should be the RIGHTFUL participation of every person living in the district. The GOVERNMENT should make sure/arrange that this DEMOCRATIC RIGHTFUL process is RESPECTED.
