The compromise is to not tap the Devon, Puna and Ramboda Waterfalls in constructing the Upper Kotmale hydropower project, losing 20 percent of the generation capacity of the project.

“The CWC agreed to Upper Kotmale but with a small reduction in generation capacity,” Minister of Power and Energy Susil Premajayantha told Lanka Business Online.

The Upper Kotmale project has been designed to generate 528 GWh of power annually from its 150 MW plant.
