Apr.25 (LBO) – Virtusa Corp., the U.S. based software development company, Tuesday announced plans to invest 15 million dollars to expand operations in Sri Lanka. The investment plans forms part of Virtusa's strategy to invest 48 million dollars in Asia for the fiscal year 2006-7, which includes 33 million dollars in India.

"Most of the investments into Sri Lanka will help grow our business and increase our headcount here," Virtusa's Chief Marketing Officer, Marc Hebert said.

Virtusa currently employs some 2,500 employees in its Global Technology Centers in Hyderabad and Chennai, India and in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The firm has secured over six acres of property in prime Hi Tec City, Hyderabad, with plans to splash millions of dollars to develop a campus for up to 5,000 employees.

The headcount for Sri Lanka alone stands just under 1,000, with employment opportunities for another 300 people this year, says Herbert.

Recently the software firm announced plans to build a development facility to house up to 3,000 people in Sri Lanka. "Plans are still being firmed up, including investments into infrastructure," Herbert said.
