At the moment the company only has an external gateway operator (EGO) license which allows it to be in the international wholesale voice and data and enterprise retail markets.
The company now carries more than 75 million voice minutes a year out of Sri Lanka which is about 30 percent of the total volumes of the island, Tata Communications Lank chief Ravi Sankar said.
It carried 45 million incoming minutes. Sankar says the firm's business volumes doubled last year.
The firm, earlier known as VSNL Lanka, was re-named as part of a global strategy to re-brand Tata Communications global operations. Licensed in 2003, it began operations in February 2004.
